Bryce Resort has been making snow! The slopes should be open this coming weekend (Dec. 17-18, 2011). Skiers and snowboarders will enjoy this.

It's raining here so I don't know when Bryce Resort will have enough snow for skiing. But I have some good news about homes for sale.

First, we have a new listing and it's NICE inside! It's got 4 bedrooms, 2 baths, and plenty of upgrades for only $163,900.

The town of Mt. Jackson holds the Harvest Festival on October 8 and 9th, 2011. There will be plenty of bluegrass music, crafts, food, and family entertainment.

If you haven't been to Mt. Jackson, this is a great time to meet some friendly people, visit the Civil War sites, and drive through the covered bridge just south of town. It's just off I-81 in beautiful Shenandoah County, Virginia. Mt. Jackson is about 25 minutes from Bryce Resort.

The annual Route 11 Yard Crawl is coming!

Over 43 miles of bargains! This event will feature our historic towns along Route 11 and include business sidewalk sales, yard sales, antiques, food, and much more along the designated Scenic By-way of Route 11 in Shenandoah County.

This is a fun event BUT if you are in a hurry, we suggest you avoid traveling Route 11 on that day, especially the Strasburg to Toms Brook section because traffic can get backed up.

This weekend also features concerts in Orkney Springs. See the Music Festival schedule.

On the Saturday of Independence Day Weekend, Bryce Resort holds a festival with craft vendors, music, kid's activities, and more! At dark there will be a great display of fireworks.

The Basye-Bryce Mountain Lions Club is featured in the "Lion" magazine May 2011 issue. Our Lions Club serves our community and the entire southern portion of Shenandoah County, Virginia. Current club president Fred Wynn points out that the club has a strong hsitory of achievement and service.

One of my favorite activities with the Lions has been volunteering at the Shenandoah Valley Music Festival, where we sell ice cream and pie to happy concert goers.

It's been a long time since I posted anything. Linda has been updating her blog regularly and I have a site dealing with real estate in western Shenandoah County.

We didn't sell the beach house but we did rent it to a good tenant. Now we have purchased another home at Bryce Resort so we are selling the chalet.

The Washington State Boyles Visit at Bryce

One of the things we enjoyed showing our kids and grandkids was the Deauville Farm near us in Basye. These Fallow Deer are descended from animals dating back to Persia (Iraq). Gail Rose has a herd of about 200 deer including 2 bucks, plus many different breeds of chickens

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

Here are photos of grandkids; Ryley (4yrs) and Josie (18months), on their Trick or Treat outing. Their parents, Doug and Sue didn't dress up, but led the caravan which included Doug's father Ken, Linda, and myself. Above, Josie and Ryley take a break from all that spooking. A good time was had by all.

Frank Researches Family History

Linda and I went on a quest TO HANNOVER COUNTY, PA in search of Frank's revolutionary war ancestors. This bronze marker just outside Marklesburg, PA

shows the way to the old Shultz family cemetery.

THE SHULTZ FAMILY GRAVEYARD

Trying to read the old and vine covered stones in the Shultz graveyard- pretty overgrown stuff.
Photo on upper right shows the replacement stone for several of the old stones which were in poor shape. On it is listed Henry Shultz and his wife, Saloma (Salome), Franks G.G.G. Grandparents. American flag is for Henry who served with PA's 5th battalion in 1777 and his cousin, Anthony Beaver who also served.

The Franklinville, PA Cemetery sits on a really pretty plateau surrounded by treed hills. The photo shows the grave of Henry Clay Shultz (Frank's Great-Grandfather), his wife, Margaruite, and sister. In this cemetery also are buried Daniel and Mary Ann Shultz (Frank's G.G.-Grandparents).

Here are some photos from our recent trip to Virginia's Eastern Shore.

The area extends from Chincoteague at the upper end to the lower Bay Bridge Tunnel across the Chesapeake Bay inlet from Hampton Roads. It is bounded by the Chesapeake Bay on one side and the barrier islands of the Atlantic Ocean on the other. There are historical sites from the 17th and 18th century but the area itself is sparsely populated and mostly undeveloped.
